Genevieve Cadieux

Originally from Montreal, Geneviève Cadieux studied Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa. Cadieux’s art explores the metamorphosis of photographic and cinematic images through the recording and production process. Whether shown in a museum, private, or public space, the presentation of her artwork inspires a theatrical, cinematic scene designed to affect the individual by drawing him in. She is devoted to producing photographic images and installations that deal with both the human body and landscape.

In the 1980s she began participating in art exhibitions with her works being shown in Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan. She also represented Canada at the Sao Paolo Biennial, Brazil (1987), the Sydney Biennial, Australia (1987, 1990) and the Venice Biennial, Italy (1990).

Cadieux’s artwork has been the subject of many exhibits across the world, including the Centre d’art Contemporain in Geneva (1991), the Institute of Contemporary Art in London (1992), the Sagacho Exhibit Space in Tokyo (1992), the Musée Départmental de Rochechouart in France (1992), The Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art (1993), the Nouveau-Musée de Villeurbanne in France (1994), the MuHKA in Antwerp, Holland (1994), The Bonner Kunstverein in Bonn, Germany (1994), The Tate Gallery in London (1995), the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Arts (1995), the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (1996), the Kunsforeningen Copenhagen (1997), the Miami Art Museum (1998), the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in Vancouver (1999), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (2000), and the Americas Society in New York (2002). Cadieux’s art can be seen at the René Blouin Gallery in Montreal, where she has regular exhibits.
